Aliseda Won't Seek Another Term in House

State Rep. Jose Aliseda, R-Beeville, won't seek a second term in the Texas House, he said this morning.

Instead, he'll run for district attorney of Bee, Live Oak and McMullen counties in what appears to be an open seat (Aliseda says the incumbent doesn't plan to seek reelection).

Aliseda is one of a handful of Hispanic Republicans elected last November and part of a huge class of freshmen who were swept into office by that election. He's an attorney and rancher.

And he put up a foreshadowing tweet two months ago, as the legislature was ending its special session: "Pay for a State Rep. is $600.00 per month and for that you spend a year campaigning and 5 months in Austin every two years".

But he says he probably would have run for another term if the D.A.'s job hadn't opened up. "I would have been likely to run," he says. "I worked hard for the district."

The new job will let him remain in public service (if he wins) and stay home. "I'm a solo practitioner. My clients were upset. My ranch looked worse and worse."
