Perry: "Can't Say I'm Not Tempted" to Run for President

Gov. Rick Perry appeared on Fox News' On the Record with Greta van Susteren tonight for the second part of a two-day report about security on the Texas-Mexico border. The governor took van Susteren on a fly-over tour of the region, during which he strongly criticized the fence that's under construction and accused the federal government of shirking its duties when it comes to "keeping people safe."

"For me, it's an issue of priorities," said the notoriously anti-Washington Perry. "There are few things the federal government is supposed to be good at. Border security is one of them."

The Fox anchor then asked the question on everyone's mind: "You say you don't want to run for president. Why not? Or are you tempted?" 

Perry responded by saying he has "a legislative session" to focus on for the next week. Then came the statement that probably offers the best glimpse so far into the governor's true ambition: "I can't say I'm not tempted, but this isn't something that I want to do." 

Pressed further by van Susteren, Perry responded, "Until I get my legislative session over with, I'm not going to get distracted from the work at hand."
