Emma Williams was a spring 2023 engagement fellow who was born and raised in Austin. She will graduate from the University of Texas at Austin in 2023 with a major in journalism and a minor in government. She covered Texas policy and politics in her previous semester as a Tribune engagement fellow and covered Austin culture and local politics in her work for The Daily Texan, Austin Monthly magazine and KUT.
During the pandemic, Texans received extra money on their Lone Star cards through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, also known as food stamps. That extra money ends this month. Full Story
