Just before we kick off the best Texas Tribune Festival program ever, we’re thrilled to share some late-breaking news.
U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will join our lineup for a one-on-one conversation Friday with Laura Barrón-López, the White House correspondent for “PBS News Hour.” The discussion will focus on the border and the department’s work protecting us from the threats we face. Their conversation is at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Paramount Theatre.
Mayorkas was sworn in as homeland security secretary in 2021. His 30-year career includes working as the United States attorney for the Central District of California and as a lawyer in the private sector. He served as the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2013-16, and as the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services from 2009-13.
Mayorkas is one of more than 300 leaders, innovators and changemakers at this year’s TribFest, which features more than 100 consequential conversations on issues that impact our nation, our state and our communities.
