Breaking news: Three big names in national politics will take the TribFest stage Sept. 5-7 in downtown Austin, joining an already stellar lineup of newsmakers at Texas’ breakout politics and policy event.
Former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming; U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania; and Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt join us to share their insights into the 2024 elections, the state of democracy, the workings of Congress, politics and policy challenges across the U.S., and so much more.
Cheney represented Wyoming in Congress from 2017 to 2023. She chaired the House Republican Conference from 2019 to 2021 and served as vice chair of the House Jan. 6 Select Committee in 2022. Last year, she authored the bestselling memoir “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and A Warning.”
Cheney is not a stranger to TribFest, having joined us for 2022’s closing keynote. In conversation with Tribune co-founder Evan Smith, talked about prioritizing preserving democracy over policy differences.
Fetterman was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2022. The Democrat previously served as Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor, advocating for marijuana legalization, economic justice, equal protection for the LGBTQ+ community and criminal justice reform. As a first-term senator, however, Fetterman has drawn clear differences with progressive members of the Democratic Party, most notably on the Israel-Hamas War, immigration and energy policy.
Stitt has served as the Republican governor of Oklahoma since 2019 with the goal of the state becoming a top-ten state in job growth, infrastructure and education. He is an entrepreneur who founded Gateway in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2000 and grew Gateway into a nationwide mortgage company. In 2018, he led Gateway through a merger with Farmers Exchange Bank and formed Gateway First Bank. Citing his business experience, Stitt has emphasized government efficiency, accountability and transparency are critical to what he calls “The Oklahoma Turnaround.”
In this consequential election year, and with the nation’s biggest voices in politics and policy joining us, the 14th annual Texas Tribune Festival is proving to be our biggest and best yet.
