TribCast: San Antonio gears up for another special election
On this week's TribCast, Emily talks to Evan, Ross and Patrick about the SD-19 special election match-up, Ted Cruz's likability as a factor in his U.S. Senate race and the latest entrants to the Texas House Speaker's race. New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker intros, with a special message for his Texas colleague John Cornyn.
1. Battle of the Petes
The runoff election for Texas' Senate District 19 is almost upon us. The TribCast crew breaks down how Pete Gallego the Democrat and Pete Flores the Republican found themselves in this race and the unpredictable state of party politics in San Antonio. Nowhere is that more evident than Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar's recent campaign support for his Republican colleague, John Carter.
2. "Like"-ly voters
Does likability matter? Evan and company consider a senior Trump administration official's concession over the weekend that U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz might not win — and that his likability, compared to challenger Beto O'Rourke, might make the difference.
3. The field grows ever wider
Ross lays out the expanding field in the Texas House speaker's race, with the recent additions of Republican state Reps. Drew Darby and Four Price. He's not ready to make a prediction — but suggests the most likely winners are already in the race.
We'll see you next week!
