Chicago Schools, Teachers Union Battle Layoffs, Budget Gap
While the head of Chicago Public Schools, Forrest Claypool, struggles to compensate for a $480 million budget deficit, the city's teachers union has rallied its supporters to protest against potential layoffs. Both parties are aiming for a Feb. 1 deadline to solidify a new teacher contract to replace the one that expired in June of last year. (Chicago Sun-Times)
