Legal Battle Over Seabed Off Texas Coast Heats Up
The oyster beds off the Texas coast are spawning a legal battle among commercial operators, state regulators and a small local agency. The claim by a commercial fleet that it has exclusive rights to a large area of seabed beneath Galveston and Trinity bays has put its owners at odds with competitors, as well as the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, which issues commercial fishing licenses.
