Press Secretary Leaving Abbott's Office

A top spokesperson for Gov. Greg Abbott is leaving for Washington, D.C. Amelia Chasse has served as Abbott's press secretary since he took office in January.

Governor candidate Greg Abbott holds a short press conference after voting in south Austin on Oct. 30, 2014.

With his first legislative session behind him, Gov. Greg Abbott is losing one of his top spokespeople.

Amelia Chasse, Abbott's press secretary since he took office in January, is returning to Washington, D.C., where she was based before joining his campaign last year. Her last day is Monday.

Chasse began working for Abbott's campaign in the spring of 2014, handling day-to-day interactions with the media as deputy communications director.

"She added a whole new dynamic to our campaign," said Wayne Hamilton, Abbott's campaign manager. "I can't imagine going through the general election without her."
