Texas STAAR Reading Scores Unchanged
Since its introduction in 2012, passing rates and average scores for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or STAAR tests, have failed to improve. Officially, the state claims its stagnant scores are due to failings in teacher instruction, though it cut funding for teacher trainings and support programs. Experts, however, point to a misalignment of the state tests and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS. (The Dallas Morning News)
