Texas native Karen Garza has been a teacher, principal, district administrator and, most recently, assumed the post of superintendent for Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia. She is the first woman to hold that position. Garza earned her doctorate at UT-Austin’s College of Education, where she specialized in educational administration. Fairfax County educates 186,000 students and is the 10th-largest district in the country. (Victoria Advocate)
