The Conservative Republicans of Texas PAC announced Wednesday that it is endorsing state Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, in the race for Senate District 18 — an election that technically does not exist yet.

Kolkhorst is running against at least two other Republicans — Gary Gates and Charles Gregory —  to fill the seat that Comptroller-elect Glenn Hegar will leave when he is sworn into his new post.

But Hegar, R-Katy, has not formally resigned from his seat, so Gov. Rick Perry has yet to call a special election for the district.

In a statement, Conservative Republicans of Texas President Steven Hotze said Kolkhorst has proved her commitment to conservative principles in the House.

"She has the perspective and experience to continue to make a real difference for taxpayers and families in the Texas Senate," Hotze said.
