Abbott Highlights Health Plan in Web Ad

After unveiling his health care plan earlier this week, Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott has released a web ad touting his "Healthy Texans Plan."

In the ad, Abbott says he will increase funding for women's health programs and do more to help veterans receive health care. 

“My Healthy Texans plan will expand access, improve care and keep costs from continuing to spiral out of control," Abbott said in the video. "With advances in technology, we can quickly expand access and bring care closer to the patient, especially in underserved, rural areas."

In Houston on Wednesday, Abbott told reporters the health care plan would cost about $175 million every two years. The proposal includes a $50 million budget increase for women’s health programs. Abbott said the plan could save money. Progress Texas, a liberal policy organization, criticized Abbott for not including a Medicaid expansion in his health care plan.
