In a campaign video released Thursday by Battleground Texas, Kim Gonzalez, the Democratic candidate for Texas House District 43, touts her record as a prosecutor. And she says her opponent, state Rep. J.M. Lozano, R-Kingsville, "can't be trusted."

Lozano, first elected to the House in 2010 as a Democrat, switched to the Republican Party in 2012. At the time, he said that his conservative record, "which was pro-life, pro-oil and gas development, and pro-small-business," was better aligned with the GOP.

In the ad released Thursday, Gonzalez called Lozano an untrustworthy representative, saying he "was fined by the Texas Ethics Commission three times for failing to report if he had financial connections to lobbyists and special interests."
