Perry Adds a Defender of Democrats to Legal Team

Add Mark Fabiani, who represented both Bill Clinton and Al Gore, to Gov. Rick Perry’s legal defense team.

Gov. Rick Perry speaks on his Texas economic efforts while speaking to New Hampshire business leaders in Portsmouth on Aug. 22. 2014.

Add Mark Fabiani to Gov. Rick Perry’s legal defense team, a hire that’s interesting not just because Perry already has five lawyers, but because of Fabiani’s own resume. He was, in the words on Perry’s own press release, “former Special Counsel to President Bill Clinton, and former Deputy Campaign Manager for communications and strategy for former Vice President Al Gore’s presidential campaign.”

Fabiani will join the lawyers already in place: Tony Buzbee, Ben Ginsberg, former Texas Supreme Court Justice Tom Phillips, Bobby Burchfield and David Botsford.

They are about to get their first run around the track; Botsford told a judge last week that they will challenge the indictments and the constitutionality of the laws underlying them this week.
