Texas’ STAAR Assessment Scores Fail to Live Up to Expectations
Despite hopes that the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) exams would boost student achievement, scores have remained flat. Central to the state’s school and district accountability program, test results for grades three through eight have shown minimal improvement since the new exams replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test three years ago.
