Some Texas Parents Say No to State Testing
On the eve of the annual battery of tests known as STAAR, or State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, a small but growing number of concerned parents are opting their kids out of the required exams. Supporters of the move argue that undue focus on test scores robs children of valuable classroom time, while detractors claim it impedes college applications and removes accountability from educators.
