Cornyn Encourages Voters to Elect Judges Wisely
In a video released Thursday by the Texas Civil Justice League, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, discusses the importance of electing qualified judges and encourages Texans to make informed decisions when casting their vote.
“It’s important to research the candidates and compare their experience so folks can make an informed decision,” says Cornyn. “Go online and learn more about the candidates’ backgrounds, experience, and what type of philosophy will govern how they serve on the bench."
Often, voters don’t have a lot of information about candidates, said George Christian, a member of the league’s senior council.
But it’s important for Texans to understand that what happens in these courts affects them on a personal level, Cornyn says.
“Whether it’s a court challenge to a new regulation from Austin or interpretation of a new zoning law,” he says. “What happens in Texas courts reverberates all the way down to individual consumers.”
This video was released by the TCJL less than two weeks away from statewide legislative and judicial elections, as a part of the organization's statewide campaign to increase voter participation in judicial races.
