Nolan Ryan Endorses Carnes for Ag Commissioner
Nolan Ryan, the Hall of Fame pitcher whose career included record-breaking stints with the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, is lending some of his star power to J Allen Carnes in the Republican primary race for agriculture commissioner. A news release from the Carnes campaign says that Texans will soon hear Ryan "making the pitch" for Carnes in campaign ads across the state.
In a statement, Ryan said Carnes has the "knowledge for the job" and the "strength of character to fight for Texas families.”
Carnes faces Joe Cotten, Tommy Merritt, Sid Miller and Eric Opiela in the March 4 GOP primary.
Ryan himself had considered running for the position but ultimately decided not to. He runs his own company, Nolan Ryan’s All-Natural Beef. On Tuesday, it was announced that Ryan was joining the Astros as an executive adviser.
Carnes also has the endorsement of the Texas Farm Bureau. He is a farmer and the mayor of Uvalde.
