Perry Appoints Nandita Berry as Secretary of State
Gov. Rick Perry has named Nandita Berry of Houston as the next secretary of state. She becomes the first Indian-American to fill the post, according to a press release from the governor's office.
Berry takes office Jan. 7, succeeding John Steen, who on Friday announced his intent to resign.
Currently a senior counsel with Locke Lord LLP, Berry earned bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Houston. She is a past member of the UH Board of Regents, according to the release from the governor's office.
Her husband, Michael Berry, is a radio talk show host of note in the Houston area.
