State Sen. Wendy Davis, the newly minted Democratic candidate for governor, has released her first web ad. The four-and-a-half-minute spot, titled "A Texas Story," is heavy on biography. It features her daughter, Amber, speaking of Davis' rise from humble beginnings as the child of a single mom to her graduation from Harvard Law School and a life in elected office.
"You know they say everything's bigger in Texas? Well, that certainly wasn’t the case for the trailer we lived in," Amber says in the ad.
The video shows a variety of iconic Texas images, from downtown skylines to cotton fields and cattle. Davis, dressed in jeans and a white button-down shirt, narrates the piece from what appears to be a Texas ranch. The video periodically cuts to supporters — most of them women — who talk about how her initiatives affected them and Texas.
"I’m running for governor because I know our best days are yet to come," Davis says at the end. "Join me and together let’s make Texas as great as we know it can be.”
