Winn Looking at Open House Seat — But Not Brown's

Former Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Gerald "Buddy" Winn might run for the Texas House next year, but it won't be for state Rep. Fred Brown's seat.

Gerald "Buddy" Winn and Fred Brown

Former Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Gerald "Buddy" Winn might run for the Texas House next year, but it won't be for state Rep. Fred Brown's seat. Brown, R-College Station, resigned earlier this year; he's moving to Salado to run a car dealership, and that's not in his House district. Winn ran against Brown in 2010, forcing the incumbent into a runoff before losing that race.

That sounds like providence, but Winn says his residence is no longer in that legislative district. He's in HD-12 instead of HD-14 and is studying that district now. Where the latter is entirely contained within Brazos County, the other includes parts of Brazos and McLennan counties and all of Robertson, Falls and Limestone counties. It, like HD-14, won't have an incumbent; redistricting left that seat open.
