It's hard enough to travel with people you love - imagine traveling with your rival in a statewide race. It's exactly what the Republican and Democratic candidates for land commissioner chose to do to get to a Tribune-sponsored debate in Lubbock on Tuesday. Commissioner Jerry Patterson was originally planning on piloting his own plane with his opponent, Democrat Hector Uribe, in tow. But the weather was worrisome, so the two wound up on a Southwest flight bound to Lubbock. That's where a few of us Tribune reporters found ourselves seated right behind them. (I reminded the men that you can choose your own seats on Southwest...)
