2010: Stanford Gets Kinky
While working for Democrat Chris Bell's campaign, political consultant Jason Stanford spent much of 2006 criticizing then-independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman. Time for him to make some adjustments.
Friedman has hired Stanford to do communications for his campaign as a Democrat for agrigulture commissioner.
“I think it says something about Kinky that he’s willing to hire his former chief critic,” Stanford says. “That shows some leadership, and it shows his skin’s gotten a lot thicker over the last four years.”
As to what his official title within the campaign will be, Stanford doesn't know and doesn’t care. “I’m always hoping a campaign will give me the title of 'spokesmodel,'” he says, “and maybe this will be the one.”
Stanford, along with three other top staffers, was fired from Farouk Shami’s gubernatorial campaign in December after less than three weeks on the job.
