Former President George H.W. Bush will endorse Kay Bailey Hutchison in the governor's race this week, sources close to Hutchison confirmed tonight. (Credit Wayne Slater of The Dallas Morning News for the scoop. UPDATE: Turns out the Houston Chronicle's Joe Holley had it first.)

That's the second big name (and the biggest so far) from the Bush wing of the Texas Republican Party. James Baker, 41's longtime consigliere, chief of staff and Secretary of State, endorsed Hutchison earlier in the week. Lots of others in that camp are with Hutchison, too.

President George W. Bush, president #43, hasn't endorsed anyone in the race for the governor's seat he once held. Not yet, anyhow.
