Joining the big-city papers in Austin, Dallas and Houston, the San Antonio Express-News has endorsed San Antonio native Bill White, the Democrat who served three terms as mayor of Houston, over Republican incumbent Rick Perry in the race for Texas governor.

"Rick Perry has been governor of Texas for 10 years," the endorsement said. "He is already the longest-serving governor in state history. It's time for a change. The duration of Perry's tenure as chief executive of the Lone Star State isn't the problem. It's what he's done and how he's changed during that time."

The endorsement went on to praise White as someone who would be "accountable and accessible" as governor.
