A new political action committee billing itself as the Back to Basics PAC has produced a 30-second anti-Perry spot that is expected to start running in select Texas markets tonight. Democratic sources say the ad buy totals $250,000 and that it hits on a theme we've heard a lot this summer: Perry's elite lifestyle, in the face of a multibillion-dollar budget crisis.
"Perry would cut funding for nursing homes, pre-kindergarten, higher education," the voiceover begins. "But here's what he won't cut: His $10,000-month state-funded mansion in the hills, three dining rooms, seven bathrooms, heated pool ..."

UPDATE 2:35pm: Perry spokesman Mark Miner responded saying, "When you support a candidate like Bill White, who won't release his tax returns, is embroiled in an ethics scandal for steering business to a company he had financial ties to following Hurricane Rita, earned millions serving on the corporate board of a company under congressional investigation and has not unveiled one new policy initiative, it's not surprising you would run an false attack ad."
